Average Position
Average position is the average ranking of your pages in search results for the queries they appear on, as reported in Google Search Console. A value of 8.0 means, on average, you showed up around the eighth result.
Why it matters
It’s a quick gauge of whether your visibility is improving or slipping over time. Climbing from 15 to 7 can be the difference between page two and the bottom of page one — where clicks actually begin.
The common misreading
Obsessing over a single average. It blends many queries and fluctuates daily; one page at #1 and another at #30 average to a misleading 15. Read it as a trend, and segment by query where it matters.
