Keyword Cannibalization

Keyword cannibalization is when several of your own pages compete for the same keyword, so they undercut each other instead of one ranking strongly. Google isn’t sure which to show, and none performs as well as a single focused page would.

Why it matters

It’s a quiet drag on sites that publish a lot. Three thin posts on nearly the same topic split clicks, links, and relevance signals. Consolidating them into one strong page often lifts rankings more than any new content.

How to spot it

Search site:yourdomain.com keyword and see if multiple pages target the same term, or watch for pages swapping positions for the same query in Search Console.

WebSignalytics connects to your Google Analytics and emails a plain-language report every Monday — what changed, why it matters, and what to do next, including whether AI search is citing you. No dashboards, no logging in.
